Hip hop is a culture

As I was pondering on how we can, beyond systemic solutions like 'different pathways to success', really understand individual interests of our students, help them discover and develop their aspirations, and better integrate academics with character development, I got to know this from a Singaporean who went to Australia for high school after completing his secondary education here:

"We had history lessons on the foundation of hip hop, some B boying classes, at some stage even an outing (on) the B boy scene in Australia."

"Hip hop is a culture, which is again what a lot of dancers in Singapore don't understand... They emphasize more on technicality as opposed to finding out about the origins and feelings imbued when the move was originally created."

Truly fascinating.
